Highway Code 2022 – Detect vulnerable road users with Safetymax

Safetymax

Major changes to the Highway Code come into force on 29 January 2022. We look at what this means for road users and fleet operators specifically, and how Motormax can support fleets providing additional support for drivers.

Three new rules added to The Highway Code

  1. Hierarchy of road users
  2. Clearer priorities for pedestrians
  3. Drivers to give priority to cyclists in certain situations

Hierarchy of road users – what this means for fleet operators

The induction of a hierarchy system will pave the way for a ‘more mutually respectful and considerate culture of safe and effective road use’, according to The Department for Transport. In practice, this system means that those road users who can do the greatest harm have the biggest responsibility to reduce the danger they pose to others.

The new hierarchy system denotes that vans, large commercial vehicles and HGVs pose the most risk to other road users. With this in mind, it’s more important than ever that fleet operators factor this into driving policies and ensure their drivers are supported and have the means to detect vulnerable road users.

Live saving alerts by Safetymax

Safetymax is an innovative and comprehensive safety system that’s been designed to improve fleet safety and the welfare of drivers and road users alike. By using a range of audible and visual warnings, Safetymax delivers critical and potentially life-saving alerts, with timely warnings for drivers to action. All elements of Safetymax are customisable, so you can tailor prompts to your specific requirements – including vehicle immobilisation where necessary.

Combining warning alerts, camera overlay, 360 sensor detection systems Safetymax was developed considering all end user scenarios – resulting in the most comprehensive safety solution available on the market today.

360 DETECTION SYSTEM

Our R&D team have developed the safest and most informative sensor detection system available in the UK market. This detection system uses anywhere from four to 16 ultrasonic sensors to provide your drivers with a clear indication of obstacles around the vehicle below a predefined vehicle speed. The visual display uses a traffic light system at fixed points around the vehicle, allowing drivers of any nationality to understand the display and stay at a safe distance whilst maneuvering.
