Bulk & Tipper: “Game changing” integration by Motormax & Samsara

Bulk & Tipper magazine

The latest issue of Bulk & Tipper Magazine features our recent collaboration with Samsara. An industry first – the integration of our technology to provide a single solution installed across M Group Services Plant & Fleet Solutions (MGSPFS) fleet.

Tony Draper, Head of SHEQ at MGSPFS commented, “We found that standard telematics didn’t give us all the information we require. Yes, we could collect data on speeding and harsh braking but when an incident occurred, there was no context explaining the full extent of what happened.”

That’s when the team at MGSPFS realised they needed a system that would go the extra mile. In particular, it wanted to improve its understanding of road incidents and determine what action could be taken to prevent them from happening in the future. This included obtaining comprehensive information in the context of incidents, including how their vehicles and other road users were behaving, the general traffic conditions, as well as the effect of environmental and weather factors.

Technology integration

MGSPFS wanted to take its commitment to safety to the next level. Which is when MGSPFS and Samsara started to work with Motormax. Samsara and Motormax collaborated to create an industry first – integrating our technology to provide a single solution.

“As a result of the Samsara and Motormax technology, the data we can obtain is game changing. This information provides us with actionable insights so we can make informed decisions and offer more extensive training to our people going forward. The system provides us with almost immediate knowledge and the ability to reduce the chances of incidents happening again. We have a duty of care to our people and other road users. Integrating Samsara’s and Motormax’s technology in our vehicles means we can meet and exceed Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) standards.

Transport controllers are also made aware through email notifications, this provides a link to the Samsara platform which will take the transport controller directly to the event raised. This will enable them to take the action necessary to ensure that the alert has been dealt with correctly and safely.

The system can detect a multitude of issues such as the vehicle being overweight, ancillary equipment not being stowed correctly and if the stabilising legs are not retracted fully. If there are issues of this nature, the driver is immediately notified through a visual and spoken voice warning. Safetymax

Motormax’s exclusive Safetymax technology provides a visual and spoken voice warning in the cab to alert the driver. Warnings such as “leg not stowed” can be tailored to the vehicle. Motormax also installed a “live” five-camera system, providing a 360o recording around the vehicle, capturing footage from the vehicle journey and its operation. This system is fully integrated with the Samsara cloud-based platform, so drivers and operators benefit from a comprehensive single solution. Motormax also supplies a side detection and left turn alarm system which contributes to the fleet’s compliance with FORS and DVS.
