#Project EDWARD – safer mobility, everyone’s responsibility

The 2023 ProjectEDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death) week of action is taking place from Monday 15 – Friday 19 May 2023 to coincide with the UN Global Road Safety Week.

As a supplier of vehicle safety technology, Motormax is committed to raising awareness of this national campaign as we all strive for safer roads for all and Vision Zero. We design and manufacture solutions such as Safetymax to prevent incidents.

#ProjectEDWARD Road Safety Campaign

ProjectEDWARD is the biggest platform for showcasing good practice in road safety in the UK. Managed by Projects Zero, it is backed by government, the emergency services, highways agencies, road safety organisations and British businesses. It promotes an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach – the long-term objective of which is a road traffic system free from death and serious injury.

In 2021 1560 people lost their lives on the roads, a rise of 7% on the previous year. Similarly, the number of people seriously injured exceeded 27,000, a rise of 13% compared to 2020.

Good Practice

ProjectEDWARD is an engagement initiative which seeks to showcase examples of good practice from around the country.

As the official Prime partner of ProjectEDWARD, National Highways will be providing support across England to help highlight the importance of investments in the strategic road network of motorways and major A roads and how it contributes towards safer roads. This support will help to raise awareness of the strategic road network’s role in road safety and encourage people to take action to reduce the risks while driving.

Commenting on the partnership, Jeremy Phillips Head of Road User Safety at National Highways, said:

“Casualty reduction is a shared responsibility across multiple stakeholders, including road users. Working in partnership with members of Project Edward throughout the week of action, we aim to raise awareness that safety on our roads is everyone’s responsibility, and to motivate road users to play their part. Along with our delivery partners, National Highways is there to support road users in keeping themselves safe and we will highlight the measures put in place to deliver that support.”
