Commit to saving lives with CLOCS safety standard
We have complied this blog to help our customers understand more about CLOCS. CLOCS stands for Construction Logistics and Community Safety. It’s the national standard that has been designed to ensure safe construction vehicle journeys for all its members.

How was CLOCS designed?
The CLOCS standard brings together best practice from policies and codes to provide one overarching gold standard to construction and fleet operators to implement into their organisations.
Why is CLOCS needed?
The Department for Transport statistics highlight why action is needed. Over 28,000 people were killed or injured in the last five years by construction vehicles in the UK. That’s an incident occurring every 90 minutes – with many of those resulting in casualties, or life-changing injuries. In a post-Covid world, construction in the UK has soared, so too has people taking part in active travel such as walking and cycling. Ensuring vehicles are CLOCS compliant has never been more critical.
Who can become a CLOCS member?
CLOCS members are called CLOCS Champions. To become a CLOCS Champion organisations must:
- share a clear plan to get most of its sites and/or fleet operating centres to be CLOCS compliant within two years
- encourage other organisations to adopt the CLOCS Standard
- and strongly advising its key supply chain partners to also become CLOCS Champions.
Through becoming a CLOCS member, organisations are demonstrating their ongoing commitment and responsibility towards increasing safety standards for their employees and the wider public.
How does CLOCS impact on fleet safety?
Local authorities have reported 47% fewer collisions and 37% fewer complaints, when CLOCS Standard is implemented – saving both lives and money.
What is required to meet CLOCS standard?
To meet CLOCS standard, vehicles need to be fitted with safety solutions to protect the driver, vulnerable road users and the public. Some of the solutions that contribute to CLOCS vehicles are warning signs, vehicle sensors and blind spot minimisation.
